Welcome to Ranchstar Hungarian Vizslas
We are Steve and Pam Joyce and we live in the Cambridgeshire fens. Pam is very much "front of house", looking after, showing and occasionally breeding the dogs. Steve is the backroom boy, bringing in the money and dog sitting. All our dogs live in the home NOT in kennels. We are members of the Hungarian Vizsla Club and the Hungarian Vizsla Society. All our dogs and any puppies that we breed are pure bred and Kennel Club registered.
We breed from British stock and ONLY when we want a puppy for ourselves. As the puppy we keep will be headed for the showring (and hopefully produce our next generation) our litters are fed on mainly human grade organic food. They are born and spend their first few weeks in the room next to our living room. They are then moved to the utility room, adjacent to the kitchen, where they have access to their own outside space. They are ALWAYS accommodated within the home and will meet our other dogs. All our puppies are ear tattooed before leaving us and put on the National Dog Tattoo Register.
Pam was born and raised in a Lancashire mining town. She went to the local girls' grammar school, left at sixteen and went to work in the laboratory of the local water authority. She studied on day release to degree level to become a Chartered Chemist, Member of the Royal Society of Chemistry. She has worked in pharmaceuticals, food, environmental analysis and semiconductors but is now a stay at home "mum" to the dogs. Pam was married in 1977 and bought her first dog, an Irish Setter in January 1978. His first show was in June and Pam was soon hooked, buying an Irish Setter bitch with the intention of breeding her own puppy for the showring. Sadly the bitch never conceived. Following her divorce she left showing in 1989. As a teenager she learnt to ride horses and after her divorce she served in the Royal Naval Reserve, reaching the rank of lieutenant, attained a brown belt in Jujitsu before sustaining a knee injury and was a motor racing marshal.
Steve was born and raised in Leicestershire. He was educated at the local comprehensive, left at sixteen to work for the local council where he studied on day release to degree level and became a Member of the Chartered Institute of Public Finance and Accountancy. He has worked for both public and private sector organisations and is now Chief Financial Officer for a local council. In his spare time Steve is a cricket umpire and drummer in "Sledgehammer", a rock covers band.
After marrying in 2001 we bought a Hungarian Vizsla bitch, Steve's first dog and Pam returned to the showring with her in March 2002. Pam writes the Hungarian Vizsla breed notes for Our Dogs and is on the "C" list to judge Hungarian Vizslas and Irish Setters. She is also available to judge Pharaoh Hounds.
Our foundation bitch, Valasztas Bucks Fizz was born on 17th September 2001. We call her Csilla which is a Hungarian girls' name which means star. She was bred by David and Diane Cooke in Cheshire. She qualified for Crufts 2003 and has a hip score of 8/8. She is a real character who adores people, especially children. We often used to say to each other "see you back at the ranch" so when we bought a bungalow in a rural village we named it "The Ranch". Our affix, Ranchstar came from the name of our home and the name of our foundation bitch. To date we have bred four litters and our fifth litter is planned for early 2014.
